2012 Introduction Message

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Scouting! We are excited that your child is registered as a Beaver with us this year in the 1st Manotick D Colony.  Our first meeting this year will be on September 18th (see below for location and time). Please keep this document handy – it contains important information for your child’s year in Scouting.

Contacts/Web Sites:
Main Colony Email Address: beavers.d.colony@gmail.com
Group/Section web site: http://1stmanotickbeaverscolonyd.blogspot.ca/
Scouts Canada’s web site: http://www.scouts.ca/

Please note that all communications will be posted on our Blog.  It is in your best interest to submit your email address on the blog as a “Follower” so that you receive all of our communications with parents.

Regular Meeting Location and Time:
Location:  St. Francis Xavier Highschool
Time:  Tuesdays 18:15-19:15
Please note: This location is where most meetings will occur. When meetings and events are held at other locations, we will inform you when and where, as well as of any specific clothing or equipment required. Leaders will use appropriate communication methods to ensure that all parent/guardians receive information in a timely manner. Parents are responsible for transporting and/or arranging for transport of their children to and from Scouting activities.

Activities:
As part of the Beaver program, your child will be involved in many activities including:

  • Nature walks and hikes
  • An overnight camp (with one parent)
  • Community Events (such as tree planting)
  • Games and sports
  • Crafts
  • Storytelling and playacting
  • Beaverees (All area Beavers meet for a day of activities)
  • Fund Raising (eg. Scout Popcorn, Selling Apples)
  • Winter events (eg. Sledding, Skating)

If you have any concerns or issues regarding your child’s ability to participate in any of these activities, please discuss them with the leadership team. To ensure that your child fully benefits from Scouts Canada’s program, it is important that you equip your child (to the best of your ability) according to the activity description provided by us.

Here are a few resources that will be of use to you:

Information Updates:
You have already filled out the Scouts Canada Participant Profile/Emergency Procedures form. This is a very important tool we use to create a program to best meet your child’s needs.
Please remember that it’s your responsibility to update the Colony leadership team regarding:
- any medical status change that your child’s leaders would need to know in case of an emergency
- if emergency contact information changes.
Your co-operation is appreciated by the leadership team. If you have any questions or would like to help out in some capacity, please speak with one of us.
